IMPACT PACS Database
The heart of IMPACT is an
ORS Visual Web Pro Internet-based mini-PACS (Picture
Archiving and Communication System). This system,
designed for clinical use, enables IMPACT to store
and share large, high-resolution radiological
examinations in the DICOM (Digital Imaging and
COmmunications in Medicine) format. Access to the
PACS is restricted to researchers that have obtained
permission from the IMPACT oversight committee,

The ORS Visual mini-PACS
is a thin-client server, so the scan data remains
safely on the server, while the user sees a
graphical representation of it without downloading
the original data. This protects the data and the
intellectual property rights of the contributor, in
addition to saving the user from requiring
specialised visualisation software or large amounts
of their own storage space.
