IMPACT PACS Database

The heart of IMPACT is an ORS Visual Web Pro Internet-based mini-PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System). This system, designed for clinical use, enables IMPACT to store and share large, high-resolution radiological examinations in the DICOM (Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) format. Access to the PACS is restricted to researchers that have obtained permission from the IMPACT oversight committee, following successful application for a scientific research project.

The ORS Visual mini-PACS is a thin-client server, so the scan data remains safely on the server, while the user sees a graphical representation of it without downloading the original data. This protects the data and the intellectual property rights of the contributor, in addition to saving the user from requiring specialised visualisation software or large amounts of their own storage space.
